幕后制作
影片由女导演伊希娅·博拉茵执导，在2010年多伦多电影节首映，最终击败了卖座片《夺狱困兽》以及《洛佩》成为2011年西班牙参赛奥斯卡外语片的代表。影片剧本由保罗·拉弗蒂编写，他是爱尔兰著名导演肯·洛奇的长期合作伙伴，编写过《甜蜜十六岁》、《寻找埃里克》等片，本片则以巧妙的戏中戏设定连接起当今同六百年前的哥伦布时代。现代戏中，贝纳尔扮演的电影导演好似拍摄《Fitzcaraldo》时期留下恶劣名声的霍尔佐格，不顾一切、独断专行，满脑子是自己的电影而看不清形势，混淆了判断力。而在古装戏中，美洲“文明化”进程中的血腥再一次被展现，某些残忍场面甚至让人联想起梅尔·吉布森的《启示录》。
